Step 1: Prepare the Steak
Pat the steak dry with paper towels. Season both sides evenly with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Let it rest at room temperature for 20–30 minutes.
Step 2: Cook the Steak
Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Add olive oil.
Cook steak for 3–5 minutes per side (depending on thickness) until medium-rare or desired doneness.
Add butter at the end and baste for extra flavour.
Remove from heat and let rest for 5–10 minutes.
Step 4: Cook Onions & Peppers
In the same pan, heat oil or butter.
Add sliced onions (and peppers if using).
Cook for 10–15 minutes until soft and lightly caramelised.
Step 6: Assemble the Sandwich
Spread sauce on both sides of the bread.
Layer sliced steak evenly.
Top with onions, peppers, and cheese.
Add greens or tomatoes if desired.
Step 7: Melt & Serve
(Optional) Place the assembled sandwich under a broiler for 1–2 minutes to melt the cheese.
Close, slice, and serve immediately.
- Best Steak Tip: Always slice against the grain for tender bites.
- Make It Juicier: Add a little steak juice or butter before assembling.
- Storage: Store leftover steak separately in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Reheating: Warm steak gently in a pan to avoid drying out.
- Variations:
Add mushrooms for an earthy flavour
Use spicy mayo for a kick
Add a fried egg for a breakfast-style sandwich
- Health Tip: Use whole grain bread and lean sirloin for a lighter version
